Oldham County Tourism Hosts Alcohol Ordinance Forum

Business owners and organizations in Oldham County are invited to attend a County Alcohol Ordinance Forum on Monday, April 13th at Open Range Sports in Crestwood at 4pm. The Oldham County Tourism Commission is hosting this Forum in conjunction with the Oldham County Police Department as a way to educate business owners and organizations in the community about the local alcohol and beverage ordinance enacted March 2, 2004. The hope is that local businesses will walk away with a better understanding of the ordinance’s details and limitations.

The Tourism Commission is working hand-in-hand with Assistant Chief of Police Lt. Colonel Billy Way, the local ABC Enforcer with the Oldham County Police Department, in coordinating the Forum. Also in attendance will be Magistrate Bob Deibel from Fiscal Court, Matt Lay – State ABC Enforcer for Oldham County, and Sandra Watts – State ABC Director of Education.

Rarely does a community have the opportunity to meet with both local and state ABC professionals in one place, so we encourage all businesses to take advantage of this opportunity. If you own a restaurant or catering company, plan events in Oldham County where alcohol would be served, or are considering hosting an event that might have an interest in serving alcohol, you are strongly encouraged to attend. This Forum will address your questions about what it means to be a “moist” county.

Open Range Sports is located in the old skating rink building behind Crestwood Station Shopping Center in Crestwood. If you plan to attend Monday, April 13th, we ask that you RSVP by email at Director@TourOldhamCounty.com or by cell at 817.6043 for space planning purposes.

Captain’s Quarters plans “Art on the River” for Mother’s Day

cqartTransition from the hectic pace of racing at Derby to relaxing and shopping along the river. Celebrate Mother’s Day with Mom at long-time local restaurant, Captain’s Quarters Riverside Grille (CQ). The restaurant will be serving its traditional Mother’s Day Weekend menu. While waiting for your lunch or dinner table, shop “Art On The River” alongside the edge of scenic Ohio River. The Art Show will feature 25-30 local fine Art and Craft artists that will display their wide range of works throughout the weekend; admission is free. Hours for the Art Show are 12:00 noon to 8:00pm Saturday and Sunday, and also includes live entertainment and the option for beer and wine tasting. Art lovers can wander the numerous booths; sit on the lawn or along the dock and take in all the action. The CQ lawn makes a comfortable spot from which to enjoy the Art Show and spring weather. The water tends to bring a peaceful atmosphere, and people enjoy being outside and hearing the sound of water, according to the restaurant owner, Andrew Masterson. CQ in Harrods Creek is a site traditionally known for hosting an Annual Art Show and Sailing Regatta in the fall. The fall Art Show began 6 years ago as an overwhelming success, and has blossomed ever since. Estimated attendance has been anywhere from 200-500 visitors per day. However, this is the first year CQ has hosted “Art on the River” in the spring. The Art Show will go on even if it rains, as each artist will have a covered tent. CQ is located off River Road near Wolf Pen Branch Road at 5700 Captain’s Quarters Road. While soaking up the one-of-a-kind hand-made shopping opportunities, stop by to check out the wooden deck that’s been replaced – it’s even bigger and better for dancing, drinking, or relaxing to music.

With everything going on in the economy, Masterson wanted to do something to support a local non profit organization. “The Center for Women and Families seemed like the perfect fit since our event is held over Mother’s Day weekend. Donations are being collected at each tent, and the proceeds provide a substantial benefit to 14 counties in KY and IN. It seems like a win-win situation for everyone involved.” According to Corissa A. Phillips, Director of Communications at The Center, 100% of the proceeds go to work in our local community. The donation will aid in The Center’s effort to eliminate domestic violence, sexual violence and economic hardship through service, education, and advocacy. The Center is dedicated to helping all individuals reach economic self sufficiency, and has been serving the Louisville area since 1912. For more information about The Center, go to www.thecenteronline.org.

For more information, visit www.cqriverside.com/artshow. Artists interested in participating in the Art Show should contact Marsha Hernandez, coordinator for Art On The River at udesignwithmarsha@gmail.com. Artists that register for the 2-day event by 04/11/09 will receive a discounted Registration Fee. The artist that collects the most money for The Center for Women and Families will receive his/her tent rental fee returned ($120).
