South Oldham Lion's Club BBQ FestThis past weekend I had the pleasure of attending the South Oldham Lion’s Club – Backyard BBQ Festival.  If you aren’t familiar with this event, don’t worry, you soon will!  This is at least the 3rd year that I am aware that the event has existed.  Prior incarnations of the event had it at different venues with different formats.  I think however this year event organizers have hit the nail on the head.

The event was held at The Maples property, located between Highway 22 and Highway 146.   This is the same property that the city of Crestwood   purchased to turn into a city park eventually.  This event was an excellent showcase for the property.  The grounds roll gently, and part of the property has a natural canopy of shade provided by trees that have seen their share of summers come and go.

Everywhere I looked, I saw groups of people gathering under big shade trees enjoying themselves.  In fact, too many people!   The event proved to be so popular that the concession stand ran out of food!   Obviously a problem, but if you are are going to have a problem, having too much interest is a nice one to have.  I’m sure next year efforts will be doubled, and with a proven record of attendance it will be easier to attract sponsors and participants.

The craft fair portion of the event appeared to be receiving brisk attendance as well.  My girlfriend helped to contribute to at least one of the booth’s sales total for the day by purchasing a pair of ear rings.

I’m not sure who all was responsible for coordinating the event, but a big hats off to The South Oldaham Lion’s Club and  Kim Buckler and her staff with ALLinOne Marketing for their obvious efforts.

I'm often asked "What is Oldham County Wired?" The easiest answer, is that Oldham County Wired is an online newspaper.
