cqartTransition from the hectic pace of racing at Derby to relaxing and shopping along the river. Celebrate Mother’s Day with Mom at long-time local restaurant, Captain’s Quarters Riverside Grille (CQ). The restaurant will be serving its traditional Mother’s Day Weekend menu. While waiting for your lunch or dinner table, shop “Art On The River” alongside the edge of scenic Ohio River. The Art Show will feature 25-30 local fine Art and Craft artists that will display their wide range of works throughout the weekend; admission is free. Hours for the Art Show are 12:00 noon to 8:00pm Saturday and Sunday, and also includes live entertainment and the option for beer and wine tasting. Art lovers can wander the numerous booths; sit on the lawn or along the dock and take in all the action. The CQ lawn makes a comfortable spot from which to enjoy the Art Show and spring weather. The water tends to bring a peaceful atmosphere, and people enjoy being outside and hearing the sound of water, according to the restaurant owner, Andrew Masterson. CQ in Harrods Creek is a site traditionally known for hosting an Annual Art Show and Sailing Regatta in the fall. The fall Art Show began 6 years ago as an overwhelming success, and has blossomed ever since. Estimated attendance has been anywhere from 200-500 visitors per day. However, this is the first year CQ has hosted “Art on the River” in the spring. The Art Show will go on even if it rains, as each artist will have a covered tent. CQ is located off River Road near Wolf Pen Branch Road at 5700 Captain’s Quarters Road. While soaking up the one-of-a-kind hand-made shopping opportunities, stop by to check out the wooden deck that’s been replaced – it’s even bigger and better for dancing, drinking, or relaxing to music.

With everything going on in the economy, Masterson wanted to do something to support a local non profit organization. “The Center for Women and Families seemed like the perfect fit since our event is held over Mother’s Day weekend. Donations are being collected at each tent, and the proceeds provide a substantial benefit to 14 counties in KY and IN. It seems like a win-win situation for everyone involved.” According to Corissa A. Phillips, Director of Communications at The Center, 100% of the proceeds go to work in our local community. The donation will aid in The Center’s effort to eliminate domestic violence, sexual violence and economic hardship through service, education, and advocacy. The Center is dedicated to helping all individuals reach economic self sufficiency, and has been serving the Louisville area since 1912. For more information about The Center, go to
