We have found that there are hundreds who support our position, so we don't need to twist anyone's arm to sign the petition. Some folks--788 to be exact--were very much against an airport in Oldham County and chose to sign on the spot. They have joined over 600 petitioners (who responded to our website). Others--like you--want more information. That's why we have built the website, and have spent over six months researching information that we think people need to know. The website isn't designed to cover issues that neither the Airport Board, nor the Oldham ERA wish to talk about publicly. Yes, the site is a bit overwhelming, partly due to the complexity of the airport issue. The problem of noise alone requires a lot of background discussion in order to understand why the FAA's 65 decibel noise limit isn't a fair representation of what "noise" is. It's our belief, however, that the overriding issue for this county's elected representatives revolves primarily around whether or not the airport can be self sustaining, and bring in economic benefits to Oldham County. Issues such as air quality, noise pollution, and loss in property values will take a back seat to economics every time--unfortunate as that may be. In addition to our website, NOA recommends that people go to www.KyFarms.org. Click on the words "GRA Analysis." GRA presented a very strong case against an airport for Spencer County (the link is also in one of NOA's articles, but this will be faster). We believe that the report was instrumental in Spencer County's decision NOT to build an airport. GRA, Inc. is one of the oldest firms in the U.S. specializing in strategic advice and financial analysis relating to air transportation. GRA has been around since 1972, and is primary economic counsel to the FAA. Their report for Spencer County will help folks see that general aviation airports across the state of Kentucky have a tough time paying the bills without extensive federal, state, and local tax money. Finally, NOA has assembled a staff with extensive aviation experience. We have members who have flown in the private, commercial, corporate, and military flying sectors. Our group includes flight instructors, examiners, aviation safety experts, air traffic controllers, and people who have owned aircraft fixed base operations and aircraft repair stations.
